Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching Lawn Mower Reviews
I’ve been using this mower for a year now. It doesn’t have the juice to do my entire lawn, but I don’t care. I love that I can mow with my kids around and not worry about choking them with exhaust and the hazard of storing gasoline in the garage. (Did you know that running a conventional gas mower creates the same pollution as 8 cars running at the same time?)
But I digress. It cuts great (I usually use either the highest or second-highest setting) and I always use the mulch setting. Battery run time has been steady at about 40-45 minutes, even with taller grass.
The only problem I had with the CMM1200 is with the safety handle assembly. Perhaps they’ve updated this in the past year, but the handle that needs to be held in while mowing (or else it shuts off) is on the fragile side. I found out because I was holding in the handle while I “bounced” the mower a little bit on my driveway to dislodge some wet grass that I had gotten stuck up under the deck. And spang! Something snapped and the mower shut off. Anyway, I had to drive 40 minutes to an authorized warranty repair shop, but they had it good as new–with a sturdier handle–in about 20 minutes. (If this happens to you, just look up service or repairs on the Black and Decker site.) The folks didn’t even need to see the mower receipt or anything.
Anyhow, while that was a hassle, I love this mower! Now only if we had the know-how to build cars that ran on electricity, we’d be on to something…
I use this cordless electric mower to mow about 1/3 acre of smaller patches of a 2+ acre property that are too small and technical to mow with my larger tractor mower. It is always ready to use whenever I want to mow a section. It needs no gas, oil or fussing with except for occassional blade maintenance.
It is clean, quiet and does a good job cutting rough weedy patches. I like that it is not self propelled because I get a bonus light workout while using it.
I had an early version CMM1000 that I used very hard for about 8 years that only failed because I hit a large rock and damaged the motor shaft. I highly recommend this mower for anyone who uses a push gas mower. I suggest to B&D that they market a solar charger as an accessory.
As lawn mowers go this is the creme de la creme. This is our second Black and Decker cordless electric battery powered lawn mower and we wouldn’t have any other kind. We owned our previous mower for over 10 years, never had a problem with it until the spring in the off/on switch broke and although it could be fixed we decided to get a newer version. Some of you out there maybe worried about the battery life, it is never a problem. Unlike gas mowers it always starts the first time and you don’t have to feed it gas. The advantage over the corded version is that you don’t have to drag that extra long cord around with you, especially a problem with a large lawn and you have no chance of cutting through the cord. The ease of adjusting the height of the blade on this mower is reason enough to buy this product. Just a flip of the wrist and you have moved, not one wheel but all four evenly. To top it all off it doesn’t harm the environment. You won’t be sorry if you make this purchase.
